Ignite Curiosity

For years, First Hospitality Group has been my home. In taking on this new role as Senior Vice President of Sales & Marketing and renewing a long relationship with Team FHG, my excitement to be back and collaborating with all of you has only grown. Perhaps some of you think that I am just picking up where I left off but, in reality, I’m traveling a whole new road. I can’t think of a better way to have kicked off my return than getting to experience this year’s conference and awards celebrations. To share that common focus of “igniting curiosity” with you, only further fuels the curiosity in me.

When we push you to ignite curiosity within yourself and your team, what we’re really asking for is the willingness to explore a little. Inspire passion for the new, exciting, and uncharted. Ask questions and investigate new opportunities or more carefully consider the power of your words, like you may have recently practiced in our conference breakouts “What do you see?” and “When You Say But”. What about the Courtyard Chicago Glenview? How do you think their team took 2015 by storm and brought home more awards that any other hotel?

To do the same thing over and over again when it’s worked for you in the past feels safe, but don’t allow yourself to get caught up in fear. Instead, get caught up in curiosity. When you are ignited, you are forward and passionate; positive energy is something that catches like wildfire. We always want to keep moving forward, whether it’s going from bad to good, good to great, or from great to exceptional. However, when faced with dissatisfaction we often look at ourselves in the mirror and start trying to figure out how we can change. Every day, when I look at myself in the mirror I see the same, old Kelly. What happens when you take the mirror out of the equation, though, and focus outside of yourself?

When you get rid of the mirror and stop worrying about what’s in the rear-view, all that’s left in front of you is opportunity. When you stop looking for the problems and start looking for the opportunities, your curiosity has been ignited. When you are ignited, you ignite others and you start seeing results. You’ve heard again and again that 2016 is going to be a year of huge growth for First Hospitality Group. So, I challenge you to face forward and break out of your comfort zone in the coming months. We are IGNITING CURIOSITY and the future is looking bright!

  1. Around here, however, we don’t look backwards for very long. We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things, because we’re curious… and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths. – Walt Disney

Looking forward to the path we take in 2016!
