It occurred to me this past week, as I had the honor of presenting the Golden Eagle Award to winners Sylwia Oak, Assistant General Manager, and Micah Coburn, Guest Experience Ambassador, of the Hilton Garden Inn St. Paul/Oakdale and the Super Bowl Award to the entire team at the Fairfield Inn & Suites Columbus Airport, how important celebration is to us, both as a company and to the individuals we are honoring.
A celebration is an opportunity to bring people together in unity. We are able to come together to honor those who embody the spirit of hospitality. We recognize them, not only for what they do, but for who they are.
They are the people who genuinely care – who want to be of service and who make a difference. It is my belief that that kind of caring comes from within. As we witness this within our coworkers and colleagues, we are challenged to raise ourselves up to meet the standard that they have set.
We can teach the hard skills if we just take the time to do so, but we cannot teach people to care. The compassion that is ingrained in so many players on our team is instilled by the example that their role models set for them. We then continue that cycle by in turn becoming examples to one another. Bottom line: compassion is infectious.
When the team behind First Hospitality Group comes to mind, I think smart, passionate, driven and kind. I think of a team that is always looking for ways to improve performance, process, and people. Our team makes it easy to surround ourselves with those who make us think more, reach higher, and be better.
It is important to take the time to celebrate the people that are the building blocks of this team. However, let’s not forget to celebrate the small wins too. It is the little victories that pave the road to success.
So, I guess what I’m trying to say is this: let the people on your team know that they are valuable and that they make a difference and in doing so you will make a difference.
Stay tuned and see the magic firsthand in the photos and videos we’ve captured!
